Recommended generic setup: Close combat, Extreme Tank.

You are given the choice between two gates:
Gate to Acidic Cloud (18km)
Gate to Patrol Area (18km)

When approaching either of the acceleration gates a popup message explains what you have to expect in the area they lead into.

Pocket 0

Pocket 1a (Acidic Cloud):

Empty pocket, no spawn.
Ship receives damage of unknown type every second.
Area deals enough damage to reduce my Rattlesnake's almost perfect passive tank (I have T1 Defense Field Purgers instead of T2, and level 4 in the shield compensation skills) to 56% (stable) by the time I fly to the next gate.
Gate to Pirate Base ~ 40k away.
Gate to Entrance ~ 6k away.


Pocket 1b (Patrol Area):

Group 1 (Automatic aggro)

Distance: (somewhere around 20)
1x Frigates (Mercenary Wingman) web
3x Cruisers (Mercenary Commander / Mercenary Lieutenant)
3x Battleships (Mercenary Overlord)


Group 2 (Automatic aggro)

Distance: (somewhere around 20)
1x Frigates (Mercenary Wingman) web
3x Cruisers (Mercenary Commander / Mercenary Lieutenant)
3x Battleships (Mercenary Overlord)

Gate to Pirate base ~ 6k away
Gate to Entrance ~ 6k away

Beware: Over 1000 dps when all ships are in optimal!


Pocket 2 (Pirate Base)


Pocket 2

Group 1 (Aggro)
Distance: 21km - 26km
2x Frigates (Mercenary Wingman)web
2x Cruisers (Mercenary Lieutenant)
3x Battleships (Mercenary Overlord)

Group 2 (will not aggro until attacked, no drone agression)
Distance: 48-55km
3x Cruisers (Mercenary Commander / Mercenary Lieutenant)
3x Battleships (Mercenary Overlord)


Blitz:
Go to the Pirate Station and loot the Hostage.

Structures:
2 invulnerable Shipyards, 1 Asteroid Pirate Station (contains the hostage)

Maximum bounty when going through the Patrol Area = 4.41 mill

Loot: About 1200 m³ before cap booster charges and metal scraps.

Standing increase is excellent with this storyline mission.

Note:
This being a typical mercenary mission, all NPCs will close to a range of 15k or less, similar to Damsel in Distress 4 . If you can handle the DPS and deal good DPS this is very easy and quick (10 minutes) to finish.

Done with active shield tanked Maelstrom 1060 hp / 5 secs, Alt there with Raven for extra dps which good because they close very fast. Too fast for arty to be effective so I used medium drones and Fury II missiles on the Raven to take them down but they did get my shields to 50% on the Maelstrom. Potentially dangerous mission so prepare well.

Pocket 2-Pirate base; Inital dps isn't that bad. No problem tanking this one. As stated above the 2nd group will not aggro until fired on and no drone aggro. 2nd pocket is much easier.
